Rita Jo Marsh, 75, of Ventura, California, died Dec. 7, 2012, following a battle with bladder cancer and additional medical complications. She was born in Cincinnati on August 31,1937 and spent her childhood in Aurora, Indiana. She attended boarding school at Oldenburg Academy followed by undergraduate studies at Marian University and received her first Masters Degree at Purdue University. Rita then moved to the San Francisco area where she taught at a Catholic high school and received a second Masters degree at San Francisco State University. She later enrolled in the University of California (Berkeley) and worked toward a doctorate which she did not complete because she began working in the Civil Rights movement for the Catholic Inter-Racial Council. This took her to Louisiana where she assisted African American children in their preparation to enter newly integrated Catholic schools. During the Vietnam War, Rita joined the Physicians for Social Responsibility which brought war-injured Vietnamese children to America for medical treatment. In the mid 70′s, Rita attended Southwestern Law School where she graduated with a Juris Doctorate.
