Schools Closed, Roads Snow Covered

Romweber FlatsAll schools in the WRBI listening area are closed today because of the weather. (See the website listing on the home page)

Roads remain slick and snow covered, according to local dispatch. There’s an accident that occurred just after 5 this morning on the 168 mile marker of I 74 E in Dearborn County and a semi jack-knifed earlier at the 143 mile marker.

Ripley County and Batesville road crews have been out this morning, beginning around 4 a.m. Dearborn County crews have been out overnight, and the state has been plowing roads all night, and some are pretty clear. SR 229 through downtown Batesville is wet and shows pavement, but does have some ice and snow patches.

Motorists in Franklin County are urged to only drive if they have to. The county is under a level two travel advisory, which means essential travel only.

Decatur County is on a level one, yellow travel advisory, which means to use caution.

There have been some slide-offs this morning and overnight, but state and county police say nothing major.

Motorists are reminded to go slow, and put plenty of distance between vehicles.

As for the schools, this is the second closing for the year due to weather for Batesville. They will use May 6 as a make-up day, and with today’s closing, will go into the first part of their two week spring break, and use Monday, March 18.  They instituted a balanced school calendar this year, with the idea to use the first week of the spring break for make up days if the need arises. This is also Franklin County’s 2nd closing, but first for S. Ripley despite a couple of delays due to weather.
